Author Sample Q&A:

THE PEARL is the third book in the Godwick series which includes THE RED and THE ROSE. What is it about this family that keeps inspiring you to write about them?

I had no idea who or what Malcolm was when I started writing THE RED and he revealed himself to me—Lord Malcolm Godwick, 13th Earl of Godwick--about the same time he did to his lover, Mona. Never ever did I dream THE RED would be so popular with readers. It’s weird, dark and pornographic (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but when the book took off, readers started asking for more.

The Godwicks are that family you love to gossip about. Like the Kardashians, they have way too much money and their lives are these endless erotic soap operas. I had to explore the naughty legacy a wicked art-loving rake like Lord Malcolm would leave for his family.

THE RED is an art gallery (The Red Gallery). THE ROSE is a famous Greek artifact (The Rose Kylix, an ancient enchanted wine cup). What’s THE PEARL?

THE PEARL is a hotel. It’s mentioned in THE ROSE as a famous hotel that used to a brothel, where Lord Malcolm lived and played in his bachelor days. In THE PEARL, the hotel still caters to the whims of the rich and infamous.

Our hero, Lord Arthur Godwick, is the son of Mona from THE RED and the heir to the Godwick Earldom. He discovers his younger brother Charlie has been availing himself of “room service” at THE PEARL (or as their father Lord Spencer Godwick calls it, “room cervix”), and now Charlie’s in debt to the hotel up to his eyeballs. Nobly (or not so nobly) Arthur strikes a deal with Lady Regan Ferry, the current owner of THE PEARL, to work off Charlie’s debt. In bed, of course. Her bed.

Hate turns to lust and lust to love but Lady Regan is keeping dark secrets from Lord Arthur. And Lord Malcolm’s keeping a secret from them both.

In THE RED, the love scenes were all based on famous paintings. In THE ROSE the love scenes were all inspired by Greek mythology. What’s the erotic theme of THE PEARL?

Sadly, in THE RED all the paintings were by MALE artists. The history of art is the history of women being seen only as subjects of art (The Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Olympia, Flaming June) but never as creators or artists themselves. And the few women who broke into the art world in centuries past were forced into painting tame and polite family portraits, not history paintings or God forbid, nudes! But some women fought back and became extraordinary artists.

Every single painting featured in THE PEARL is by a female artist. Very fitting as in THE PEARL, our Lady Regan Ferry is a powerful dominant woman and an artist herself. And Lord Arthur is a lover of art and powerful women. A match made in Heaven. Or is it Hell?

Advance Praise for The Pearl:

“Deliciously dirty… Reisz isn’t content to keep things between the sheets, setting her steamy romance in a fully developed world populated by well-drawn characters who will steal readers’ hearts. Moments of snarky humor add a lighthearted counterpoint to the novel’s darker themes.  This is erotica done right.” Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)
